The Pit was a room in Olmec's Temple. As a room occupying the "Pit Area", it featured a simple layout, a simple objective, and no temple guards.

The Pit is set up with two rock slabs on either side of the room - one on the entrance side and allowing access to the Crypt and the Ledges' upper doorway, and the other allowing access to Medusa's Lair in Layout XIV, the Room of the Mandarin Hand in Layout XV, and the Observatory. In between was a long knotted rope that hung down from the rafters. Players were encouraged to use the rope to get from ledge to ledge by swinging across. Inside the chasm below were green plastic balls such as those in the Pit of Despair earlier during the second season, and doors to the Ledges and the Laser Light Room.

Players hit actuators to open their corresponding door and to exit the room. Actuators in the room were often used as hiding places for the half pendant.

Trivia

  • In The Milk Bucket of Freydís, a badly-edited cut occurs when Tarrah leaves the Pit. Later on, she attempts to jump the crevice, ends up crashing into the opposite ledge and slides down into the bottom of the room.
  • In The Levitating Dog Leash of Nostradamus, Jason makes use of the dog leash upon retrieving it to catch the rope and pull it in, enabling him to swing across the gap and race out to victory.
  • The green balls in the Pit/Pit of Despair were later reused for the Quicksand Bog in Season 3.
